Solutions Recruitment currently looking to speak to a Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyor for a client in Newcastle Upon Tyne region.
Following several successful project awards, our client are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor. You will be based from our Head office in North Tyneside and will assist on number of projects, from a variety of sectors inclusive of: High end residential developments, Student accommodation, Commercial, Industrial, Hotels & Leisure, Education and Historic / Listed Building Works. Our client will undertake a variety of New Build and Refurbishment Works ranging in value from £50,000.00 to £15.0 million.
You will ideally currently either have recently completed or be working towards a higher education qualification and have some industry experience.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Procurement
- Review tender and construction drawings
- Produce enquiries for subcontract and supplier packages
- Review quotations and tender returns with the project manager and Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Produce comparisons following receipt of subcontractor quotations for review with the Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Formulate subcontract orders for review with the Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Ensure that subcontractor orders and warranty documents are signed and returned in a timely manner.
Valuations / Applications for Payment and Variations
- Attend site on a regular basis, participate in design team meetings.
- Produce monthly project valuations / applications for payment
- Record, monitor and value change both regards to time and cost. Submit to the Commercial Manager for Review.
- Accurately keep up to date project risk registers, risk and opportunity schedules and the like
Reporting, Monitoring, Evaluating
- Assisting the Senior Quantity Surveyor with the production and updating of cash flow forecasts.
- Assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor with the production of monthly CVR’s (cost, value, reconciliation reports)
- Monitor progress on site, update internal progress trackers
Key and relevant skills
- A level of contract awareness JCT, NEC, Etc
- Experience of working in a construction environment
- Full UK Driving license
- Excellent organisation, planning and communication skills
- Excellent MS-Office skills
- knowledge of Electronic Document Management Systems (e.g. viewpoint, Microsoft Dynamix)
Salary: Flexible Dependant on level of applicant + package
